CordenPharma is pleased to announce a collaboration with biosimulytics that combines experimental polymorphism investigations with advanced Crystal Structure Prediction (CSP) capabilities. By bringing together laboratory-based solid-state expertise and predictive computational modeling, the collaboration provides customers with a more complete understanding of solid-form landscapes and supports more confident decision-making throughout pharmaceutical development.

Why polymorphism matters in pharmaceutical development

Polymorphism describes the ability of an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) to exist in more than one crystalline solid form. These different forms can behave differently in development and manufacturing, including in terms of solubility, dissolution rate, stability, processability, and ultimately drug product performance. Identifying, understanding, and controlling solid forms early is therefore critical to reducing development risk and establishing robust manufacturing processes.

Combining predictive modeling with experimental expertise

Through this collaboration, biosimulytics contributes computational predictions of potential polymorphic forms using CSP technology, while CordenPharma’s Solid State Centre of Excellence performs experimental solid-state screening and characterization to identify and validate accessible forms under real-world conditions. These complementary approaches provide a broader view of the polymorphic landscape and help strengthen confidence in solid-form selection and control strategies.

Strong early results and next steps

Initial joint case studies have demonstrated a strong correlation between experimental outcomes and computational predictions, providing valuable insight into polymorphic accessibility and solid-form risk. The teams are currently preparing scientific publications that will further highlight the benefits of combining experimental and in-silico approaches in pharmaceutical development.
